2/4 Corner: Meet Sgt. Stephen Suever

Name: Stephen Suever
Rank: Sergeant
Length of Service: Seven years
Number of Deployments: Two
Married: Yes
Children: No
What surprised you the most about the military? The degree I was challenged too personally and professionally not only as a Marine, but a leader as well.
What’s your fondest memory of service so far? My father promoting me to the rank of sergeant. He is one of the very few men I look up to for advice and guidance, and I had no greater joy than having him be a part of my promotion.
What have you done to prepare yourself for the deployment? I have relentlessly trained myself and my Marines to think on our feet, make sound tactical decisions, be disciplined and combat today’s illusive enemy by not only out shooting and maneuvering, but more importantly out thinking and outsmarting him.
Tell us about your favorite hobby? I have a 2003 Ford Saleen Mustang. I have put a lot of work into it, including a supercharger, headers, exhaust and fuel system. I drive it only on the weekends with the top down and the sun shining.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I see myself with two kids of my own, and 180 marines in my charge as an infantry company first sergeant.
