The welcome home parade for San Clemente’s adopted unit, the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines kicks off at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14 and streets near Avenida Del Mar will close prior.
North and South El Camino Real from Avenidas Presidio to Palizada will be blocked off from 9 a.m. to noon. Avenida Del Mar from El Camino Real to Alameda Lane will be closed off from 6 a.m. to noon and parking banned along the parade route. Avenida Cabrillo, from N. El Camino Real to South Ola Vista will be closed from 6 a.m. to noon and parking banned because it is the parade staging area.
There will be signs directing vehicle traffic from the Palizada exit to the parade.
The 2/4, which is headquartered at Camp Pendleton, returned in March and April after a seven-month deployment in Afghanistan. The parade honors the Marines’ and sailors’ service and sacrifice.
The public is invited to attend the parade to show support and gratitude for our American heroes. The 2/4 Marines will be on foot marching and accompanied by 2/4 Association members riding in classic cars, the 1st Marine Division Band, members of the San Clemente City Council and other dignitaries.
Together they will travel in formation along Avenida Del Mar to the Marine Monument at Park Semper Fi where they will be saluted at an awards ceremony/memorial service.
The parade is sponsored by The Heritage of San Clemente Foundation, the 2/4 Association and the city of San Clemente.
