Fifth-grader Ashton Wright has been a fixture on the local surf contest scene since winning back-to-back San Clemente Open contests in 2010 and 2011 in the U12 and U14 divisions, respectively.
This year Ashton took on the Boys U12 division in NSSA Open competition and ended the regular season ranked No. 9.
Lately he has been spending a lot of time in the lineup preparing for NSSA Nationals.
He also makes time to enjoy other sports including skateboarding, training and competing at Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu and riding his new Yamaha YSR50 motorcycle.
He is looking forward to trying the new bike out on the race track with his dad, he said.
