Kim Hanley and Julia Dewees, San Clemente
Today, we saw a bunch of people and their kids holding signs on a street corner in support of Steve Lang. They have every right to do that: freedom of speech. However, we took particular offense to the sign that said, “Our teachers love Lang.” As long-time CUSD teachers, we don’t know any teachers who support Steve Lang for school board. He has stated that he wants to place cell towers at CUSD schools and when asked how he would solve the district’s fiscal crisis, his solution is to move the OC Swap Meet to San Clemente High School. Steve Lang wants to slash teachers’ salaries by 30 percent. He has lived in San Clemente for less than a year. Even worse, he is affiliated with the “Hold CUSD Accountable” slate that includes Reardon and others who sued CUSD for over $200,000 and who want to force teachers to work with no job security on at-will contracts. He is endorsed and supported by the anti-public school organization out of Sacramento run by former Washington, D. C. Superintendent Michelle Rhee. He and his cronies belittle the professionalism of CUSD teachers. We personally cannot vote for someone who does not value the years of education and commitment we have given to CUSD, a district whose test scores and students reflect the high expectations of the staff and community.
We support John Alpay, the candidate that we trust to continue his efforts to bring stability back to Capistrano Unified. In his term as trustee, he has supported teachers as professionals and valued the work that we do daily with CUSD students.

I’m really sad that my kids own teachers wouldn’t research a candidate themselves and actually learn about someone’s true ideas. Steve Lang loves our teachers, and his 10 grandchildren who live in San Clemente are important to him. He doesnt want to cut teacher pay at all. He has NEVER said any such thing. Cell phone towers?? Currently there’s over 20 of them on CUSD sites, and was even a topic of discussion fromthe school board in 2011. YOu support John Alpay, who ran as an anti teachers union candidate in 2010. But now you back him? Why? He voted for Oxford Charter school. He voted to fire over 300 district teachers. Read his votes. Whoisjohnalpay.com. Its all right there. Facts. Hard to deal with them I know. He grew up in Indiana and is not even close to being a true San Clemete resident. Get your facts straight. So called teachers who can’t educate on truths? Where do you teach? I hope my children don’t go there.
Why so condescending to these two teachers? First of all, you have no idea how informed or uninformed these teachers are. As highly educated individuals, I would be willing to bet that they have looked at the facts. Also, they live and work under the decisions that John Alpay has made. Are you really going to assert that they are unthinking zombies and don’t know what has been going on in CUSD? Second, just because there are 20 cell phone towers currently on CUSD campuses, you shouldn’t assume that parents, teachers, and students, will support 20, 30, or 40 more. Heck, I have a problem with the 20 that I just found out about from you! Third, while John Alpay did vote for the failed/dishonest Oxford Prep Charter School (a bad decision on his part, I’ll admit), Steve Lang states in his candidate statement that he TOO is in favor of more charter schools in CUSD. This is a wash. Finally, do you know why the US requires its presidents to be from the US? Because their allegiance, experiences, qualities, and several other characteristics will most likely come from the US, thereby helping them to govern. Do you want to know why a trustee from San Clemente should have lived in San Clemente for a good period of time? For the same reasons that I listed above! It does matter that Steve Lang has little experience in San Clemente.
The fox is guarding the hen house…the parents need a seat at this table.
Alpay voted to give away precious school days and increase class sizes.
It is that simple…everything else is just noise.
VOTE STEVE LANG
Easy on the tone!, I agree with your comment about needing to live in SC for a little while to be able to appreciate its culture, history, etc., but those things only matter for a city councilman, whose votes will directly affect SC’s culture, history, etc. Decisions made by the CUSD school board affect the education of all CUSD children and have nothing to do with SC’s culture, history, etc. If time is your issue, consider that Steve Lang has been running a successful business in Orange County since John Alpay was 2 years old. Given that the board needs someone who understands what a budget and bottomline are, I think the advantage weighs heavily in favor of Steve Lang.
Incidentally, did you know that Oxford Prep scored the highest API rating in the District and one of the highest in the state, and that these are the precise reasons John Alpay is bragging about it? Thought you might find this interesting given your knock on it.
Mother of Four, couldn’t have said it better myself. With four children here in SC, I want somebody on the school board who prioritizes our children.
Mother of Four–>Parents do have a seat at the table, it is called a “board meeting”. And just how would you fix this budget shortfall without increases in class sizes and furlough days? Oh, I get it, make the teachers take a bigger paycut. What a great idea! We should attract some really talented folks with that strategy. Let’s see, here is how it will work…graduate college with lots of debt, get a teaching credential and incur more debt, come out of school with a small “mortage” in student loans, then sign up for a job that pays next to nothing. Wow, where can I sign up? I don’t want my daughter going to cut-rate schools.
Youre right. We should all vote for Alpay because being from Indiana is much more similar to San Clemente than living in Huntington Beach and raised in Southern Califonia your whole life. That is rediculous! Alpay fits in to San Clemente like a construction worker teaching math class.
This man is dishonest, and a true politician a heart. The breaking news story today seals the deal. So sad for all the teachers who were forced to back this guy, thanks to their union funding his entire campaign.
http://sanjuancapistrano.patch.com//articles/cusd-trustee-alpay-behind-one-of-the-misleading-domain-names
What are you talking about, Andrew?
I’m a construction worker and I’ll put my math skills against yours 6 days a week and 2 times on Sunday.
In addition to needing math to ensure the roof over your head doesn’t fall in, I run my own business, so my books, taxes, etc., all rely on my math.
What an ignorant comment.
These two teachers are right about one thing: not all teachers support Lang, hopefully just the honest ones. Teachers who recognize that we can’t keep going on the path we are on. Teachers who understand that 35-40 kids in a kindergarten class is unsafe. Teachers who are willing to admit that our children will not receive the same level of education as their peers in other districts when their school year is cut by 18 days.
I have been present at every meeting with Steve Lang, both public and private. I am disgusted by the lies that have been spewing out of the Alpay campaign in a desperate attempt to deflect from Alpay’s dismal voting record.
Steve Lang has NEVER once said or thought anything about converting SCHS into a charter. This lie was created last weekend by John Alpay and Chris Korpi in an attempt to scare people from voting for Lang. They recognize that Lang appeals to the parents and vast majority of commonsense voters.
Regarding cell towers, yes Steve has mentioned it. He spoke about them along with solar panels on roof tops and farmers markets at the high schools. But these discussions were brainstorming meetings with parents in the community to try and find ways to close the funding gap so that booster clubs don’t have to carry all the weight.
While Alpay is spending $30,000 to teach his staff how to better negotiate on behalf of the Union, Steve is trying to find ways to bring in income. Here’s the funny thing: cell phone towers have been on CUSD campuses since 1984!!!
While Alpay is funded, endorsed and practically sleeping with the Union, Steve has paid for his entire campaign with his own money…beholden to NO ONE!
While Alpay sought to double his pay the first month of taking office as a Trustee, Lang will do it for no pay.
While Alpay wants to seek higher offices in his dream of becoming County Supervisor, Lang wants to repair this district for his 10 grandchildren, all in San Clemente.
While Alpay seeks to mislead and scare voters, Steve meets with parents and speaks from his heart. He is one of the most honest and sincere men I know.
Lang knows there is a better path and has the business experience to make real changes. Stand with STEVE R. LANG on November 6th!
The title of your post is ironic. Let’s just say the “mud” is flowing both ways.
I found Steve Lang’s recent mailing both inaccurate, misleading and an attempt to “scare” voters away from John Alpay. In fact, I called some of the “sources” listed who confirmed that the statements made on Lang’s mailer did not come from them.
Even your post is misleading and exaggerated, please name one kindergarten class that has 40 kids in it. Under the worst case scenario, if prop 30 fails, the school year (instructional days) will not be cut 18 days. That’s an exaggeration.
Have you spoken to Mr. Alpay? How do you know that his dream is to become a county Supervisor? Can you say this with certainty or is this a “rumor.”
Trustee Alpay has kids of his own attending CUSD schools. Every decision he made effected his own children. To suggest that in dealing with a $51M shortfall, he put the “union” ahead of his own children is RIDICULOUS.
Finally, the authors of this letter complained that Lang supporters had misleading signs suggesting that CUSD teachers support Lang for trustee. You said: “I have been present at every meeting with Steve Lang, both public and private.” So, was a CUSD teacher holding this sign or was this an attempt to mislead the public?
Oh man, I am so sad that my favorite teachers have been duped by Alpay. I adore Mrs Hanley and Mrs Dewees. Amazing teachers!!! But they haven’t done their homework on the candidates. They are just repeating the false info they are getting from the union. I researched both candidates on my own and came to my own conclusion. I am a teacher and moved to San Clemente for the main purpose of having my own children go to school in this incredible district. Unfortunately, it has gone down hill in the last 9 years. We used to be the best. Now we are one of the districts losing the most school days and with the biggest class sizes and spending money we don’t have. Alpay didn’t even spend time discussing this year’s budget. I wish the teachers would reach out and speak to BOTH candidates as I have and make their own informed decisions. If these two teachers had they would know that their article is very far from the truth.
One of the best responses I have read. Every teacher should consider each candidate on their own. Steve is a great guy who EVERYONE likes. Teachers will adore him and respect him once he is elected. It will just take time to get there and move past the lies. Steve has the momentum and has the favor of the parents…teachers need to get on board!

Kim and Julia,
While I won’t question your dedication and service to our children, you should at least do what you likely teach your students, meaning some research before you opine. I will address each of your misstatements and mischaracterizations in the order you posed them.
#1: You imply that because YOU don’t know any teachers who support Steve Lang there must not be any. Does that also mean that if you’ve never seen a million dollars it must not exist? Your logic goes nowhere. Is it possible that the children you saw holding signs that said their teachers love Lang were telling the truth? Yes. Is it possible that there are actually teachers who feel differently than you, teachers who don’t take the union’s word as gospel? Fortunately, there are.
#2: You state that Steve Lang “wants to place cell towers at CUSD schools.” In this case, you’re absolutely correct. Funny thing is, the union and Alpay are trying to paint this as a bad idea. Allow me to educate you a little. CUSD has had a variety of cell tower lease agreements on school campuses for over 25 years. These towers bring thousands of dollars a month to the District without any headache. Take a look around your school next time you go to work and you’ll likely see a cell tower or two that you’ve never noticed. Steve Lang thinks a reasonable amount more of these is one way to help the District get out of the hole we’re in.
#3: You assert Steve Lang’s solution to the District’s fiscal crisis is to move the OC Swap Meet to SCHS. First, you should recognize that your beloved John Alpay helped create the “fiscal crisis” we’re in by voting for an unbalanced budget as well as unnecessary expenditures. Check out his voting record for yourself and you can see how he’s also voted to fire young teachers to preserve senior teachers’ salaries and pensions. (www.whoisjohnalpay.com) I’m guessing the union hasn’t told you this, but I digress. Second, my understanding is that Steve Lang is thinking outside the box to raise revenue for the District, and things like a farmer’s market or swap meet are cheap ways to raise a lot of money.
#4: You claim that “Steve Lang wants to slash teachers’ salaries by 30 percent.” This is just not true. The post by Steve Lang addresses this precise lie. There he responds: “Not only have I never said this, I’ve never even thought it. I believe teachers are the most critical piece in the education puzzle and that they should be able to work AND afford to live in San Clemente. I value their effort and dedication to our children and promise to treat them with the respect they deserve. I have learned over and over again that ‘it’s only a good deal if it’s good for everyone,’ and I will strive to make sure our teachers are cared for with as much effort as I put forth towards our students.” I prefer to get my information from the source. I think you would do better by taking a similar approach.
#5: You accuse Steve Lang of being “affiliated” with Hold CUSD Accountable. Although not raised by you here, he’s also been accused of being funded by his church. Both of these rumors are false. Directing you again to Steve Lang’s own words, he states: “I have not asked for or sought donations from anybody. I’m personally funding my entire campaign myself. I view this, in addition to my time, as my personal contribution to creating a brighter future for my ten grandchildren, and all the families that are supporting me here in San Clemente.”
#6: Your assertion about the Sacramento group endorsement is a new one. Not sure where you got this as neither it nor any Michelle Rhee is listed on Steve Lang’s list of endorsements. I’m guessing you have no idea where this information came from, whether it’s true, and whether it even means anything. Seems to be par for the course for you though, so, I’ll just move on.
#7: You claim Steve Lang “does not value the years of education and commitment [you] have given to CUSD.” Have you spoken with Steve Lang? If you had, like I have, you would be singing a different tune. I refer you to the response above with respect to your salaries. Taken from the horse’s mouth, it’s clear Steve values you and all teachers in CUSD.
While I cannot force you to do any research, I invite you again to review the voting record of the candidate you “trust” so much. If you do, you’ll find, as I have, that his voting record does not warrant re-election. He’s brought nothing but distrust, disrespect, and dismay to the District. I think it’s time for a change.
I’m voting for Steve Lang because he is a businessman with no political agenda who is just trying to help where he can. We should all be a little more like that.
I realized this morning that in my haste to correct your misinformation, I failed to address one misstatement. I apologize. I’ll fix that now.
#8: You claim Steve Lang has lived in SC less than a year. By this statement you imply that living here for a short period of time somehow disqualifies a resident from representing SC. I disagree with your logic and conclusion for the reasons I’ll now explain. First, Steve Lang has lived in Orange County for more than 40 years, probably more than John Alpay has even been alive. He moved to SC in June 2011 to be closer to his three daughters and ten grandchildren because Huntington Beach was just too far. I can’t imagine you would begrudge any grandfather such a decision. Now, June 2011 is obviously more than one year ago, but I’m not going to quibble over a few months. Second, I’ve been to multiple CUSD Board Meetings and read the meeting minutes for every single board meeting since Alpay’s election. (I would ask if you’ve done that kind of research, but I already know the answer.) It doesn’t take more than five minutes to see how bad things are in our district. From voting for unbalanced budgets to shutting other board members up before they can be heard, our current board is dysfunctional, and John Alpay is at the root of it all. Third, and likely most crushing to your faulty thinking, is this fact: John Alpay has only lived in San Clemente three months longer than Steve Lang. Yes, that’s right, Alpay moved to SC in March 2011. Do those three months make him more qualified to represent SC than Steve Lang? I doubt it. Based on this information, I invite you to ask yourselves this question: is it better to actually live in SC before attempting to represent SC (Steve Lang), or is it better to attempt to represent SC while living in Tustin and then move to SC just so you can run for re-election (John Alpay)? I think the answer is easy, but the union may feel differently.
In short, I think Steve Lang’s common-sense approach and ability to manage the bottom line will improve what can again be one of the best school districts in the state. I hope you will both be along for the ride.
How is it possible that Alpay moved to San Clemente in March of 2011 when he was elected to represent San Clemente at CUSD in November of 2010? Lang and his ilk criticize Alpay for not winning election to City Council in 2008, so I think it is fair to say that he has been in town for many years and quite longer than the Out of Town Developer just relocated from Huntington Beach.
Lang’s idea of cell phone towers shows how out of touch he is with San Clemente. It is sad to see Councilman Tim Brown rally against Marblehead signage in an effort to preserve our Village Character but at the same time support Lang’s effort to change our small town in exchange for new cell phone tower contracts from his church going buddy. Save our Village Character and say no to the fraud on Ave. Barcelona and the newly relocated developer from Huntington Beach who both put church connections ahead of our community.
Small minded people like you, Mr. Cook, is the problem with this election. You are trying desperately to distract voters from the issues and creating lies. Mr. Alpay reduced our school year and increased class sizes. He sided with the union and threw our kids under the school bus. He doesn’t represent San Clemente, he represents anyone who will fund his campaign so he can climb the political ladder. Look where the money is coming from. Look who he has voted for. Alpay is taking his moves right out of the Obama playbook. Lie, distract, divide, and scare the public.
You actually teach children? You should do your homework. Shame on Steve for trying to bring money IN and not take away from our teachers and students! What a contradiction to the statement that he wants to slash 30% of teachers pay. He does NOT want to cut salaries and I have done my homework.
What about our children here? Do you not teach children? How do you sleep at night knowing you support Alpay and the fact that HE added children to the classroom and cut school days from our calendar – giving our kids one of the shortest school years in the state. This race is not about the teachers, whom Steve supports. This is about Alpay and the horrible decisions he made that greatly cripple our children’s education. I have never met Steve but simply based the bad decisions Alpay has made, I am voting for Steve.
Did someone hijack these teachers identities or was there a union thug with a gun at their head, making them write this? It would also appear that neither of these are creative writing teachers, Because these are the same lies that we have seen now for weeks. Please do yourselves a favor, take a step back and look at the record and character of the man you are supporting. As mentioned you chastise Steve for only being in San Clemente for a year? But has been an OC businessman for over 30yrs…Im sure thats much longer than his opponent has been transplanted down here from Indiana after college…How much family does he have out here? How many organizations and local networks of local people does he hangout with? Steve seems to have fit in quickly with 10 grandchildren, their parents, his children all living, working and thriving within this community. If you dont see that Alpay is on a personal political quest, perhaps teaching isnt your true calling. Dont cry and complain when he leaves you high and dry after using this position as a stepping stone to further that illustrious career as a politician, because he will and we know they ALL lie. Especially ones that are attorneys….yikes…..
I must admit, I am a bit shocked that so many on this comment forum dismiss the comments that these two teachers have made as being “uninformed” and “in lockstep with the union’s” opinion simply because they disagree with Steve Lang’s platform. My brother had Mrs. Dewees many years ago when she taught at another school and he remembers her as being one of the most inspirational and well-versed teachers he has ever had. These are the very teachers we should worry about losing if CUSD resorts back to the dysfunctional days of the ABC crowd, Tony Beall, Jim Reardon, and Bobbi Mahler (who raked in hundreds of thousands of dollars, plus a huge pension, for her short tenure as Interim Superintendent). John Alpay is not perfect, but he is a San Clemente resident. His kids do go to public schools in San Clemente. He has a stake in the game. A semblance of balance has been brought back to CUSD, we finally have a superintendent who has stuck around for more than one year, and despite a horrid fiscal situation for the past several years, CUSD test scores keep skyrocketing upward. Further, he knows San Clemente. And yes, it does matter that Mr. Alpay has lived in San Clemente for quite some time. As anybody in this forum knows, San Clemente is a unique city with a unique history. It has a military history, a presidential history, a Hispanic history, and much more. A North County resident, such as Mr. Lang, can only dream of knowing San Clemente in the same way that those who live here know so well.
So why am I so willing to wax poetic about John Alpay? What is my stake in the game? I have a daughter who is going to be attending a CUSD elementary school next year. I would like to see her get the same top-notch education that I received from CUSD, allowing me to graduate with honors from a top university. I also want our teachers to earn a good living wage. The old saying, “You get what you pay for,” was not conceived of in a vacuum. Steve Lang is proposing that teachers earn less–much less–and some simple logic will tell you so. Allow me to illustrate my point. There are three main ways to close the budget gap that currently exists: furlough days, class size increases, and salary cuts. Furlough days give the district the biggest bang for its buck, as everything is shut down–not just teacher pay. Increasing class sizes allows the district to operate with fewer teachers and thus, fewer salaries to pay. And salary cuts, we all know what those are. John Alpay voted for a combination of all of the above, essentially sharing the burden with all of the parties involved. Steve Lang has stated that he opposes the furlough days and the class size increases. What does that leave? Salary cuts!!! How can we continue to operate as a top-level district if the district pays its teachers LESS than Santa Ana, Anaheim, Laguna Beach, etc.? It can’t and it won’t. Further, while I am no fan of furlough days, either, it does at least allow these teachers to make up some of the money that they have lost by taking a summer job earlier in the year. The bottom line is that if you want the best, like Mrs. Dewees, you have to pay the best. If you don’t, there are plenty of bottom feeders out there willing to fill the void. John Alpay is my choice.
BRAVO
Double Bravo!
Alpay has not voted for a decrease in teachers’ salaries. He has voted to reduce the school year and increase class sizes. Therein lies the imbalance. We have Trustees who vote in lockstep with the Unions.
We are in a huge recession. Name me a sector in our economy that has not seen a decrease in pay. Name me ONE! Are teachers immune to recessions???
How many more days are we going to cut the school year by? We will have the least amount of school days in the nation? Tell me how the test scores will be in a few years.
Schools don’t exist to provide pensions, they exist to provide our children with education.
The Unions can have Alpay but PARENTS AND FAMILIES NEED LANG!!!!
Well said, Mother of Four. I’m always baffled when people try to say our teachers had their salaries cut. A salary cut is when you get paid less for working the same amount, not when you get paid less for working less. I agree that Steve Lang is a much better choice than John Alpay.
The teachers union supports John Alpay and is targeting Steve Lang for defeat. That shows where his allegiance lies. If you want more money to go to already inflated teacher union pensions rather than to the class rooms, the John Alpay is your guy. The last thing we need is more Union influence on our schools. Vote for Steve Lang
Thank you for your reply. In reading all of the posts on this topic, I can clearly see that the folks who are supporting Lang have a big agenda. Anybody who has attended the CUSD board meetings knows that teachers have taken furlough days, increases in class sizes, AND pay cuts. So, “Oh Captain My Captain”, you are flat wrong, misinformed, and frankly dishonest. As I said before, “you get what you pay for.” I prefer not to have my daughter attending the public schools with the lowest paid teachers in Southern California. In order to attract the best, you have to pay the best, period. I don’t mind having a small portion of my salary going to pay for better schools. My vote, and that of my wife’s, just went into the mail today for John Alpay based on what I have read here.
Kim and Julia, please see the released article by Steve himself today. I saw this link on my friends facebook page, and went to read it for myself. To know that you are so loved as teachers makes me really happy! I want my kids to have great teachers. Involved, challenging, and inspiring. Heres the link to Steve’s article….if you felt like hearing the truth from the source itself.
http://sanclemente.patch.com/blog_posts/the-truth-about-steve-lang
He obviously doesn’t want to do what you have heard from whoever. I think its great that an actual candidate will speak out and address those falsehoods.
To be informed, you want us to read The Patch? That’s your “Source”. It’s a glorified gossip rag monopolized by the bullies who support Lang, Reardon and Perkins. If you dare comment against them, they lambast you with insults and drive real debate out the door.
Mr. Lang has made statements in the OC Register and the SC Times here so why do we need to see The Patch? His statements have already explained who he is and what he has to offer the district – NOTHING!
Comments about John Alpay voting for a charter are misleading. State law governs how charters are approved and all of the trustees voted for it – bad idea? SURE! But both candidates support charters. With failing schools, they work. We don’t have failing schools in this district – quite the opposite!
Mr. Lang may be someone “everyone loves” but that doesn’t make him a good candidate for our school board. He has nothing but platitudes – he is a puppet for the people who convinced him to run.
Easy on the Tone based a vote soley on what was said here, but doesnt sound like a teacher, teacher’s friend or friend of the campaign at all….smh. That was a pretty shallow vote if it only based on what was said here and not given your own thought and research….it would be expected that you would vote that way…
Actually, I did not base my decision solely on what I saw here (that was a rather ignorant assumption on your part), however, what I read on this post prompted me to fill out my absentee ballot. I was leaning toward supporting Alpay anyway, but I still was still not convinced so I decided to Google some more information on this issue and up popped this article. I do not like Alpay’s position on charter schools, but I don’t see any daylight between Alpay and Lang on this issue. This was a tie for me. What really irks me is the fact that Lang is clearly in favor of reducing teacher’s salaries even more than they already have been eroded. Anybody who has been to a board meeting in the last few years know that teachers have taken pay cuts, furlough days, and had an increase in class sizes. In my line of work (I am a stocks analyst for a small firm), the best analysts get paid well for their services. The sub-par folks struggle at the bottom and eventually either leave or suffer with a low salary for a tremendous amount of work. CUSD is a good district with great teachers. It has been this way for years! This WILL change quickly if we don’t pay teachers enough money to lure them away from other districts. I was hoping, HOPING, one Lang supporter on this forum would say something regarding this. It didn’t happen, sadly.
Steve Lang addressed the rumor about him wanting to cut teachers’ salaries by 30% — he never said it and still doesn’t want it. Though it doesn’t matter because you’ve already voted, you can read Steve’s own words here: http://sanclemente.patch.com/blog_posts/the-truth-about-steve-lang. Also, I might point out that teachers haven’t taken a salary cut. A salary cut is getting paid less for the same amount of work, not getting paid less for working less, which is what happened here.
Lastly, I wonder what your response is after Alpay’s latest conduct has come to light: http://sanclemente.patch.com/articles/cusd-trustee-alpay-behind-one-of-the-misleading-domain-names.
I wonder how many will still support John Alpay in light of his (recent) deplorable conduct. See for yourself: http://sanclemente.patch.com/articles/cusd-trustee-alpay-behind-one-of-the-misleading-domain-names
Im sure they will ignore this, dismiss this, or say it wasnt really him. Like they said the same about Korpi not being behind the others. Ignorance is bliss. This is true in CUSD. Its better to rail against the truth and demonize someone than it is to step up to the table, admit you were wrong…and work together to make things right.
Alpay is a devious individual. I dont care what side you support. Do our children need to be represented by a man who stoops to these levels in order to garner support, money and votes from his citizens?
If youre still for Alpay after this, youre definitely supporting him for the wrong reasons. Sad.
The common thread that runs through all of your replies is the toxic venom that pervades each message. There is so much more to life and to educating children than this ongoing political cat-fight.
This district doesn’t need another round of extremist candidates, Ken Lopez and Mike Winston surrogates, coming in and trying to take over the system overnight, setting us up for another recall that we can’t afford. The literature being circulated by the OC Republican party via flyers, door hangers, etc. certainly makes Steve Lang appear to be a second coming of Winston or Lopez/Maddox.
The nastiness running through the messages here and on the patch, written by the same commentators repeatedly in the same vicious tone, definitely turns the clock back to the original Winston Lopez/Maddox campaign and subsequent recall. The rest of us have had enough of your madness. Your crazy squabbling has grown tiresome. Get over yourselves already.
You hide behind pseudonyms, spewing accusations that no reasonable person would believe given the negative tone of each message, pretending you’re fighting out of concern for “the kids.” If your concern was your kids, you wouldn’t be online for hours a day, every week, for years now swearing at each other, wasting hours at board meetings, yelling at each other, while your kids are growing up without you.
This is a school board election, not the Strategic Defense Initiative, not the Federal Deficit, not an invasion from China. Local school board. You are just not as important as you think you are.
Perhaps teachers should know the truth about the beloved union endorsed John Alpay — and how he treats his constituents. I am glad to share the transcripts of the call I received from him on Monday evening at 6:41 PM as well as my personal cell phone bill showing the timestamp on his number — TRUST me when I tell you that his care and concern for the children was not part of the conversation.
http://www.whoisjohnalpay.com
Mr. Starks, Did you record the call? Is that legal? Or did you write down what you think you heard or what you want us to think you heard? And why would he call you?
