The campaigns for Jim Dahl and Mike Mortenson are in full-accusation mode with cries of lies, innuendo, misinformation and negative campaigns. The problem is that their perception of “negative” is anything that is said about them.
They attack Bob Baker for having to hire an election consultant in trying to defend himself against a fake candidate. He needed to spend this money because of the monkey business perpetrated by the people actively campaigning to re-elect Dahl and bring in Mike Mortenson to the city council. They endorsed a candidate in order to split Bob Baker’s votes between him and the fake candidate, thereby allowing Mike Mortenson to win a seat on the council.
Jim Dahl was the very first signature on the fake Bob Baker’s endorsement form. This is how Jim Dahl conducts San Clemente business. But the party line with these two campaigns is to accuse everyone else of impropriety.
Jim Dahl said in a debate that the toll road would end at Trestles “someday.” Mike Mortenson said he couldn’t give an answer, but later said he was opposed to the road ending in Talega. He never answered the question on the toll road ending at Trestles. Mike did say he would support a massive building in a prominent spot in downtown if it was ‘tasteful’. He said he would see how it fits in. These are not lies. They are not innuendo. They are quotes from a candidate debate.
The only people crying foul and accusing people of lying are the campaigns for Dahl and Mortenson. They are actively playing games with this election and then accuse others of deception. There is no deception with Bob Baker or Chris Hamm. They have told you they want to run the city with an eye towards residents’ needs and desires. They have said residents first.
Please don’t reward Jim Dahl with another four years on the city council. Sixteen years is enough. Let him know that playing with our election and dirty politics do not belong here and we won’t put up with it.

I was the first person to signed Bob’s nomination form followed by my autistic son. Why is a woman for Lake Arrowhead so interested in this campaign? Are you paid to write these letters?
Hamm’s statement listed his biggest donors as Gary Hopp of San Clemente ($500) and four $250 donors – Victoria Isch of San Juan Capistrano, Tommy Harris of Lake Elsinore, Heidi Harris of Lake Elsinore and Kathleen Ward of Lake Arrowhead.

I’m personally leaning towards Mortenson and Hamm. Shocker, I’m splitting them up! Who says we have to vote for them as teams? I’m not doing it. Dahl has been around too long and Baker has waged a smear campaign. No thanks to either. Mortenson has mentioned his surfing background so I would find it pretty hard to believe that he would endorse a toll road ending at Trestles. To suggest he would seems a little disingenuous.

What the $21K that Mr. Baker spent was to do polling. What he found out was that regardless of which BB 1 or 0 he was losing to Mike Mortenson. It was at that point that his Professional LA Political Campaign machine started to slam Mr. Mortenson. Not sure exactly why an incumbent city council member who makes $400/month as a CC member is spending over $30K (as a loan) to get re elected. Strange. Especially since he just says NO to everything anyway. Anyone can do that.
I am a resident. I am not part of a “team.” I am interested in who wins this election and what happens to this town. I am participating just like everyone else.

those are the words that come to mind when someone gives sooo much to get elected officials in that support the residents visions and wishes. Mr. Baker (#1) just happens to care about our city and happens to be in a position to do this. Good for him and all the residents!!

He has spent 40K on this election, the MAJORITY at a consulting firm in Torrance. His best friend is nearing 100K, on hit pieces against Dahl and Mortenson. How philanthropic is that?! 100K on hate mail?!?!? How about using some of that to finish the next phase of Courtney’s Sandcastle?? Baker and his wife showed up to the FAM walk a few wknds ago about 45 min late, and were walking the WRONG way into other oncoming walkers, it was the most absurd thing I have ever seen. He wanted to be seen at a charity event, and trust me- he was seen!!! He was seen by ALL showing up late and disregarding the route of the walk. The only charity this guy knows is saving the back 9 holes at his private golf course. How did that go for ya Bob??? Not so well according to what I have heard…
Kathleen, why did the Hamm list you from Lake Arrowhead on his disclosure statement? Why did you lie about Jim Dahl signature being first?
The real question in this whole campaign (and thousands know this) is who was Dahl’s master when he took 150k from the toll road company in cash for his personal finances? Was it the toll road? or the people of San Clemente? Of course because of this conflict no one will EVER know.
After this conflict was exposed — Mortensen made his pact to run with Dahl as a team. What a pathetic duo.
Barbara, I didn’t lie; it was not my intention. I saw a list of the names that someone wrote down of people who signed the papers for Bob Baker O. They were names that they recognized, the most significant being Jim Dahl. I never asked, and it was my assumption that it was in order. I misunderstood that. So my statement that he was first was wrong.
It doesn’t, however, change the fact that Jim Dahl signed the papers. I believe this was very wrong and the rest of what I said stands. He signed it and what number his signature was doesn’t change the act.
Anyone have a link to show Dahl received 150k from the toll rd and over how long a period of time?
Yeah Right— It’s more like 100k for Dahl from the toll road— 150k if you count other conflicts he has and side money….. 16 years on the TCAS at almost 7k per year— you do the math! The guy LOVES the toll road…wonder why? He NEEDS the money–

The only developer that has chosen to spend tens of thousands on this election is Charles Mann, and he has done so in support of Baker and Hamm.

You’re worried that Charles Mann is a developer compared to the Marblehead establishment and the Los Angeles real estate pac that support Urban Sprawl Dahl and layer Mortensen?

Dahl has got to go. I don’t care if the guy wants a toll rd, but the city of San Clemente does not. If Dahl doesn’t want to represent voice of the people then he can leave local office.
I don’t see Mortenson in the same light especially in regards to a toll rd at Trestles. I’d also like to have representation of growth in San Clemente. That is something I believe Mortenson will do.
Dave– you are right about Dahl—- But—Mortensen is joined at the hip with Dahl—He weaseled out of the toll road question at the debate. I see him Dahl all the way– they even had a joint banner or two printed and hung on private developer’s property!
The joint banner was paid for by the Chamber of Commerce. There are many of them around SC. They are paid for by the Chamber because they have endorsed Dahl and Mortenson both, so they are both on the banners.
And “Bing” it’s not an LA Real Estate PAC, you can’t take 30 seconds to google something before you run your mouth and spew lies? It’s a PAC of real estate AGENTS, MANY from San Clemente- it has an LA address, it is a statewide pac of realtors. Not that facts matter to you, clearly.
The only PAC you should be concerned with has a SJC address, it’s run by Charles Mann, and it has spent close to 100K on attack ads for this election. Does 100K sound a tiny bit excessive for a PAC in SJC??? huh??? In addition to the 40K Baker “lent” himself. There’s ALOT of money going into the Baker/ Hamm campaigns from Charles Mann. Why would a guy (Charles Mann) that has Nevada license plate on his car, and has his businesses located in SJC put SOOOOO much money into a SC city council election?? Scary…
