In the highly competitive South Coast League, one can always count on things coming down to the wire.
On November 1 at Irvine Regional Park the San Clemente girls cross country team narrowly defeated rival Dana Hills in the South Coast League Finals as the Tritons scored 48 points to the Dolphins 49.
It was the first time in school history a girls cross country team had captured the South Coast League title.
The Tritons had three runners place inside the top-10 and they were led by Melissa Eisele, whose time of 17:03 was good enough for a fourth place individual finish. Kelsey Carroll finished sixth with a time of 17:25 and Grace Georgi placed 10th after posting a 17:34.
All five of the girls teams in the South Coast League qualified for CIF.
