The San Clemente boys basketball team opened up the regular season on a high note with a 77-69 come from behind win over Downey High in the first round of the El Modena tournament on November 26 at El Modena High.
The Tritons (1-0) overcame a 55-53 fourth quarter deficit by outscoring the Vikings 24-14 in the final quarter, giving them their first win of the season.
San Clemente had four players score in double digits on offense and they were led by senior guard Cody Bean’s 21 points. Senior Jimmy Bankson also added 18 of his own. Senior forward Anthony Pinelli provided 12 points off the bench and senior center Jake Terkoski dropped in 10.
With the win the Tritons advance to play Orange Lutheran, out of the Trinity League, in the second round of the tournament on November 28.
