Behind the electric 3-point shooting of senior guard Cody Bean, the San Clemente boys basketball team rung in the new year on a high note, as they picked up a non-league 79-63 road win against Woodbridge on January 4 at Woodbridge High School.
Bean, playing in his second year on varsity, knocked down eight 3-pointers over the course of the game, tying former Triton Ben Straley for the most 3-pointers scored in one game in school history.
Bean finished with a game-high 29 points, while sophomore forward Sam Darnold and senior guard Jimmy Bankson also played big roles scoring 16 and 12 points, respectively.
San Clemente (9-8) trailed throughout the first half, and found themselves down 15-23 after the first quarter, and 34-37 at halftime.
However, the Tritons stormed back in the third quarter, outscoring the Warriors 21-8, to take a 55-45 lead into the fourth quarter. The Triton scoring run continued in the fourth, where they added an impressive 24 points to pick up the win, establishing some momentum heading into Sea View League play in the process.
The Tritons have one more non-league game against Capistrano Valley at home on January 9 before kicking off Sea View League play at home against San Juan Hills on January 10.
