I agree substantially with Mr.Klempton’s views on the issue of guns in America. However I do feel the need to comment (please insert $0.02 here). America has a culture of firearms. since the first pilgrim in America, there has been a gun. The gun was keep near the front door. you did not leave the house without your gun. There were wild animals, wild Indians and other individuals who may want to take your property from you and do you harm. This is a culture over 450 years old. That make it almost hereditary.
It would be wonderful if we did not have this culture, if there were no guns, especially for criminals. But having a lamp and three wishes would also be wonderful.
We are also a culture of cars. Only 100 or so years worth, but how about legislation that takes away our cars and requires that we travel with two or more people and/or use rapid transit or get our cars confiscated.
We are a culture of guns, but only recently a culture of violence. We need to find out what is creating the violent culture and fix it.
The reason the people need assault rifles with 30 round magazines is because that is what the police will have when they come to get our guns.
