San Clemente-based pro surfer Chris Ward finished second, behind Hawaii’s John John Florence, at the Volcom Pipe Pro at the Banzai Pipeline on Oahu’s North Shore, February 2.
Ward emerged from the field of 124 competitors to become the only surfer representing mainland USA in the final.

Australia’s Josh Kerr came in third, followed by Olamana Eleogram of Hawaii.
