On Friday, U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a man with a loaded gun who was transporting methamphetamine on Interstate 5.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., a 42-year-old male United States citizen arrived at the Interstate-5 checkpoint driving a white 2002 Chevy Suburban.  The man was referred to the secondary inspection area, where a K-9 sniff of the vehicle resulted in a positive alert.  Agents searched and found 16 bundles of methamphetamine behind the vehicle’s firewall and a Sig Sauer 9-mm pistol loaded with 14 rounds that was in the center console.

The narcotics weighed approximately 9.72 pounds and has an estimated street value of nearly $97,200.

Agents arrested the man and turned him and the narcotics over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.  The gun was turned over to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.  The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

Last fiscal year, the San Diego Sector seized more than 1,797 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of more than $17 million.
