More Victims Linked to Alleged Youth Sports Molester
Vol. 4, Issue 2, January 8–14, 2009
THE LATEST: A San Clemente man and South County youth sports coach is expected in court January 9 facing charges that he molested four young boys after gaining their families’ trust. Cameron Joseph Baca, 27, faces 11 felony counts of lewd acts on a child under the age of 14, four felony counts of distribution of pornography to a minor and one felony count of attempted lewd acts on a child under 14, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Baca is a well-known face in South County youth sports, coaching football, basketball and lacrosse for numerous organizations in San Clemente, Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano. On December 17 he was arrested by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department after the parents of a San Juan Capistrano boy came forward and reported that their son had been molested years earlier by Baca. He was later released on $100,000 bail.
The Sheriff’s Department sent out pleas to the community asking that additional victims—if any—come forward. At least three other cases came to light and, on December 31, Baca was again arrested on new charges. Bail was increased to $1 million, and as of January 7 he remained in police custody.
According to a report issued by the District Attorney, Baca allegedly befriended the families of his victims and groomed the boys by spending time with them, inviting them to his home for meals and by buying them baseball cards. He is accused of showing some of his victims pornography and sexually assaulting them.
WHAT’S NEXT: Baca is due in court at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, January 9 at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach. Stay tuned.

It is amazing that autorities released a child preditor back on the streets. Especially during Christmas. The police and judges should have better judgement when it comes to the protection of children.
He should have been kept behind bars on Dec 17th when he was originally arrested. The fact that he was allowed to get out on bail and spend Christmas at home is mind blowing. These 4 boys must have been in absolute fear knowing that he was still out on the streets. Hopefully, he will be unable to make bail and will be behind bars for the remainder of his life.
