Motorists who use the toll roads will likely be paying more on the routes starting July 5. Directors of both the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency (133, 241 and 261) and the San Joaquin Hills TCA (73) approved budgets that included 25-cent rate increases.

Both Boards also approved an increase in the account maintenance fee, from $1 per month to $2 per month, but kept the $25 waiver threshold. The fee was implemented in 2000 to offset the cost of servicing accounts and has not been raised since then, TCA officials said.

Directors of both agencies—primarily City Council members from the areas served by the toll road—included the fee increases with the approval of budgets totaling $324.5 million for 2009-2010. That includes $145.8 million for the San Joaquin Hills Agency and $178.7 million for the Foothill/Eastern Agency.

The fare increases on the 73 are at the Catalina View Mainline Toll Plaza and the Newport Coast Road and El Toro Road ramps. The toll increases for the 133, 241 and 261 include all ramps and toll plazas except the Windy Ridge Toll Plaza, near the 91 freeway.

The new toll rates will be implemented at 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 5.

Additionally, the TCA announced a private contractor will begin construction of four communication facilities along the north section of the 241 toll road to provide better cellular reception for all major carriers.

State should take these over by eminent domain.
