North Section of San Clemente Beach Trail Open

The City of San Clemente announced on April 16 that the section of the San Clemente Beach Trail between the North Beach and El Portal access points was opened to the public following the completion of surface repairs to the area.

Emergency stabilization work following the January landslides that impacted the Mariposa Pedestrian Bridge necessitated modifications to the trail area, according to the city, which further caused damage to the trail.

The city’s press release added that the Mariposa Bridge area remains closed. 

“Long-term solutions for this area will require additional repair and improvements,” the release read. “The timeline for restoring this important Beach Trail connection is unknown.

San Clemente Woman’s Club Fundraiser on Saturday

The San Clemente Woman’s Club will hold its annual rummage sale fundraiser this Saturday, April 27, from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at 866 Camino de los Mares in San Clemente.

A large collection of household items, clothing, furniture and collectibles will be available for purchase, with proceeds going to provide scholarships for San Clemente High School seniors, Family Assistance Ministries, the Dorothy Visser Senior Center and the Boys and Girls Club of the South Coast Area, among others.

Free Shredding Day at Monarch Bay Plaza

Monarch Bay Plaza is hosting a free shred event this Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., to help the community securely dispose of confidential documents. 

Services are provided by Paper Recycling and Shredding Specialists – licensed, bonded, and insured. Watch your documents being cross-cut shred for better destructions. Certificate of destruction available upon request. 

There is a maximum limit of five banker boxes per person. Truck space is limited; space cannot be guaranteed. Monarch Bay Plaza is located at 32840 Pacific Coast Highway (at Crown Valley Parkway) in Dana Point.

‘Thirteen Storytellers’ Program Begins at Mission San Juan Capistrano

On Saturday, April 27, at Mission San Juan Capistrano, 13 artists from Mission Fine Art Gallery in San Juan Capistrano will be displaying their artwork created during the plein air paint-out that took place during the St. Joseph’s Day festivities at the Mission in March.

The public is invited to attend and interact with the artists, some of whom will be painting on-site, and to view the completed works that will be available for sale and displayed in the gallery’s adjacent promenade. 

The event, from noon to 6 p.m., is part of the gallery’s yearlong program to highlight the city’s stories through visual arts at various sites. Mission Fine Art Gallery, an award-winning artist-run gallery, is located at 31760 Camino Capistrano, Suite C, in San Juan Capistrano.

San Juan Capistrano Students Receive STEM Grants

Two students from San Juan Capistrano-based schools were among 10 Orange County high school students and 63 students from around the state who received STEM grants from the Amazon Future Engineer program, as well as paid industry internships.

Ami Chung from California Connections Academy and Mica Malek from California Preparatory Academy were announced as scholarship winners (up to $40,000 over four years. depending on need) to help them pursue degrees in computer science, engineering or a similar field of study.
