On Tuesday, August 3 at 7 p.m. the Fifth Annual Flame Photography Awards will honor the best new talent in action sports photography. The event will be held at the Shorebreak Hotel, 500 Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach and is free to the public; however, pre-registration is strongly suggested.

Five talented photographers are in the running for the $5,000 grand prize. This event is hosted by the Follow the Light Foundation, created in the memory of Larry “Flame” Moore, one of the surfing world’s most influential photographers. Moore passed away on October 10, 2005 after a three year battle with brain cancer leaving behind a legacy of 30 years as the photo editor of Surfing Magazine. He requested that a foundation be established to “help finance the dreams of surf photographers, pushing the sport and its lensmen forward.”

This year’s awards will include some new components, thanks to an idea of world renowned action sports and lifestyle photographer Aaron Chang to include digital audio and video elements to the entries. Chang along with Candace Moore will serve as emcees for the evening.

The Follow the Light Awards is presented by Swell. Supporting sponsors include Hurley and Surfing Magazine and a “People’s Choice” award will be presented by Oakley. The evening’s festivities will include a raffle with prizes such as a Channel Islands surfboard autographed by Kelly Slater, SWELL gift cards, his and hers VZ prize packages, Oakley sunglasses and an Oakley Holeshot stainless steel watch valued at $550.
