Former San Clemente High School standout and USA Volleyball National Team member Tom Beard has been hired as the program’s head girls volleyball coach, athletic director John Hamro said in a press release Tuesday.
Beard, who also coaches with San Clemente Volleyball Club, replaces Rob O’Rear, who guided the Tritons for the past 21 seasons.
“After an extensive search, we are thrilled that Tom has agreed to take over the San Clemente High School girls volleyball program. Tom brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for the game of volleyball and understands how important it is to instill a genuine love for the game in his players as well,” Hamro said in the release. “Tom lives in San Clemente and is well aware of the program’s history of success and the importance of volleyball in our community.”
The Tritons open their season on the road with a preseason game against Orange Lutheran on Sept. 4.
