Artillery fire from Camp Pendleton, heard across San Clemente, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and beyond, is expected to continue through Friday morning, according to Camp Pendleton U.S. Marine Corps officials.
According to a USMC press release, depending on atmospheric conditions, the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away.
Mortar (120mm) and artillery fire is scheduled for Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to midnight in the Whiskey/Zulu impact areas on the northern part of the base. On Friday, live fire is scheduled from 1 a.m. to midnight.
