Christ Lutheran Church, 35522 Camino Capistrano in San Clemente (Capistrano Beach area) will celebrate its 50th anniversary of the church’s 1965 founding on Sunday, Nov. 8, with a “blessing of the animals” and a neighborhood gathering from noon to 2 p.m., preceded by a dedication and church service at 10:30 a.m.
The service will be held in the sanctuary and the gathering and blessing of the animals, at 1 p.m. by Pastor Brenda Bos, will take place on the church lawn.
“Pet owner or not, the event is open to the community,” said Judy Franz, Church Council president. “We will have treats for both pets and people and really hope to meet our neighbors.”
The congregation has been celebrating the golden anniversary with service projects to commemorate the milestone.
“We signed up over 50 donors for our two blood drives this year. We try to collect at least 50 pairs of socks and underwear for the homeless each month and 50 pounds of food each month for Family Assistance Ministries,” said Pastor Bos.
Recently, members of the church also wrote 50 postcards to veterans for their past service and performed 50 random acts of kindness.
