Rael Wins Skate Contest in Oceanside

San Clemente’s Mateo Rael bested a field of 50 skateboarders at the Zumiez Best Foot Forward Contest at the Melba-Bishop Skate Park in Oceanside on May 7.

With the win in Oceanside, Rael, a junior at San Clemente High School, earned a spot in the contest finals, which will take place in September. The contest travels to 35 different locations throughout the season and pits event winners from each stop against each other in the championships. Rael’s score of 82.94 at the contest edged out the next closest competitor by three points.
