Cosmic Creek, a retro surf contest featuring local shapers, vintage surfboards from the 1970s and ’80s and live music, will take place Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point.

The 14th annual surf festival hearkens back to the alternative, more experimental time of the ’70s, where surfboards ruled the shops, shapers were gurus and surfing had a mystical soul about it.

Surfers’ competition boards are chosen by luck-of-the-draw for competition in three divisions—Locals, Creators and Innovators and Pros.

Presented by Vissla, the event includes a free concert on Saturday, hosted by D’Blanc on the grassy Salt Creek Park hill, featuring live music by FROTH and Tropical Popsicle.

Music on the beach will be played both days by Reverberation Radio DJs, and local vendors—including Shwack Beach Grill and Seaworth Coffee—will provide food and refreshments.

“I’m stoked to be partnering with Vissla and local business to host the event this surfing , music and board craftsman festival this year,” Eric Diamond, the event’s founder, said. “I have been so fortunate to grow up here in Dana Point; it’s all about giving back to this wonderful community by including fellow business owners.”

Signups are being taken at Killer Dana Surf Shop, 24621 Del Prado Avenue in Dana Point. For more information, visit www.vissla.com/blog/vissla-cosmic-creek/#.
