South Orange County California Genealogical Society
“Researching Your Family Through Land Records and Stock Certificates”
Are you using property records in your family research? When property was bought, sold, taxed, or listed in a will, a record was created which can help us learn more about our ancestors. Deed books not only record the buying and selling of land, but many miscellaneous transactions are recorded there as well. At our November meeting, SOCCGS member Kathie Mauzey will show us how to uncover information in land records and deed books.
Few of us think of stock certificates as a part of genealogical research, but anyone who had a relative involved in any public corporation, even as an employee, can use this resource to research genealogy or family history. Join us as SOCCGS member Sandy Simmons shares how he has traced his family’s history and thus his genealogy, through many of these original certificates. Learn how they provide a fascinating tale of his predecessors’ lives, successes and failures, and can be used to tell ancestors’ stories.
Visitors are invited to this free program on Saturday, November 16th, which includes refreshments. The presentation will begin after a short business meeting at 10 a.m. and concludes at noon. The society meets at 27976 Marguerite Parkway at Hillcrest Drive in Mission Viejo. Park and enter behind the church. For more information, contact email@example.com.
The SOCCGS Genealogy Research Center located at the Mission Viejo Library is open seven days a week with docents available to help you and Beginning Genealogy classes are offered each month. Visit www.soccgs.org for more information.
