Family Assistance Ministries is looking for volunteers to participate in some of its local programs to help low-income individuals and families.
The faith-based nonprofit organization needs volunteers to help pick up donated food from local grocery stories using a FAM vehicle from 7:30-10:30 a.m. once a week. Food will be distributed in the food pantry at senior centers and to the group’s local military families in need.
Other volunteers are also needed to help sort and stock the donated food, with both morning and afternoon shifts available on a weekly basis.
And to help low-income clients prepare their taxes, FAM is also looking for volunteers to fill such positions as tax preparer, knowledge expert/quality reviewer, assistant site coordinator and greeter.
While anyone can help, prior experience or knowledge of tax preparation is preferred. Volunteers who can speak both English and Spanish are also in great demand, according to FAM.
Training is provided in partnership with the IRS and will begin soon.
