San Clemente senior linebacker Riley Whimpey has committed to Boise State University, according to head coach Jaime Ortiz.
Whimpey, who set a school record with 172 total tackles in 2014, held another offer from Utah State.
Whimpey, a physical 6-foot-2-inch linebacker, transferred from Utah for his senior season and immediately made an impact. He was named the Sea View League defensive co-MVP and was the CIF-SS Southwest Division defensive player of the year. He carries a 4.0 grade-point average.
Whimpey will join fellow San Clemente graduates Blake Gonzalez and Terrell Johnson on the Broncos roster.
Whimpey will serve on a religious mission for two years before enrolling at Boise State in 2017, according to Ortiz.
