Ben Brantell and Bane Corbett are two local groms whose enthusiasm for surfing is absolutely infectious.
This shot of them was taken April 9 at Western Surfing Association event No. 8 at 9th Street in Huntington Beach. Although the swell on Sunday failed to deliver big waves, the shorebreak at 9th Street proved challenging.
Surfing in the highly competitive WSA Boys U12 division, these San Clemente-based athletes advanced out of Round 1 with second-place finishes in their respective heats. After some great surfing by both of them, Ben’s campaign came to an end in the quarterfinals and Bane ended up taking third in the division.
Both are dedicated to working hard on advancing their surfing skills and having a lot of fun in the process.
“Ben and Bane are Lowers regulars,” said surf photographer Jack McDaniel. “They are constantly stoked and constantly ripping.”
Thanks Ben and Bane, for the shakas and for always sharing the stoke, whether shredding for fun or for points.
