The 2013 San Clemente boys soccer season will go down as one of the more successful runs in school history.
After sweeping the South Coast League, going 8-0, the Tritons went on to win five playoff games to capture the CIF-SS Division 1 title. Up next was the CIF SoCal Regional, where the Tritons defeated Bell of Los Angeles and La Costa Canyon to earn a berth in the Regional finals.
San Clemente (32-3-1) took to the pitch to play against El Rancho (29-1-1) on March 9 at Warren High School in Downey but were shutout 3-0, bringing an end to their season. The Tritons out shot the Dons 12-6 in the game but El Rancho made the most of their limited opportunities and went wire to wire for the win.
Although the SoCal Regional title wasn’t in the cards for San Clemente, they had a season filled record-breaking performances and were defeated only three times all year. The 32 wins amassed by head coach Mike Pronier’s team is a new record. The 21 shutouts recorded is also a new school record. The defense was strong, as was the offense, which managed to score a record 100 goals on the season.
