Participants receive education and experience in ocean safety, first aid, rescue techniques, body surfing, board surfing, body boarding, physical fitness, and marine safety operations, according to the city of San Clemente website.

All new students must pass a swim test to be eligible to register for the Junior Lifeguard Program. The swim test is conducted at the San Clemente Aquatics Center. A passing swim test is completing four laps (100 yards) under 2 minutes.

The first of the Junior Lifeguard swim tests begins Saturday, March 23. Visit for more information.
