SUSAN BREWER, San Clemente

Kurt Andras Reinhold was shot and killed by OCSD deputies outside the Hotel Miramar in San Clemente on Sept. 23. This is a tragic loss of life. Mr. Reinhold was someone’s son and a precious child of our creator.

Deepest caring and sympathy to all his loved ones. We are a town with character and caring for everyone. That is the only way to keep a city safe for all.

Whatever your politics, shots were fired on our street. That places all citizens in danger. I have great concern for anyone in that area at the time.

How will we all be treated when committing a minor offense? I have initially read that Mr. Reinhold was stopped for jaywalking. This same source claimed that the deputies were trained how to handle these situations.

We need deputies capable of de-escalating situations for everyone’s safety. Until the investigation is completed, these deputies need to be off our streets. They are not keeping us safe by being involved in fatal shootings regarding minor offenses.

City council, it is your responsibility to keep our city safe; remove these deputies immediately and insure that any law enforcement on our streets are capable of safely handling offenses.
