JOHN ALKEMA, San Clemente
I have lived in San Clemente for almost 50 years. My kids have gone through San Clemente schools, and their successes in college and life have proven both their desires to be successful but also the value of good schools in preparing them for the demands of higher education and life.
My house has required repairs and upgrades over the years, and these projects have benefited myself, my family, and my neighbors by increasing property values. It is no different with schools.
Upgrades and repairs to school buildings and school infrastructure benefit all residents of San Clemente, improving the education process by providing safe, modern and up-to-date learning facilities and, again, increasing property values.
Proposition H is a bond measure on the March Primary Election ballot that will provide funds to make repairs to aging education facilities in San Clemente schools and to replace portable classroom facilities with modern education facilities.
Funding for upgrades and major repairs are not provided for in the state education budget. Our local community is solely responsible for paying for upgrades and major repairs, such as roofs, air conditioning, and theater facilities.
I urge all San Clemente residents to vote yes on H on the March Primary ballot.
