Louis D’Angelo, San Clemente
Our community is a hub for innovators, entrepreneurs, artisans and leaders. It is one of the most powerful and inspiring facts of life here in San Clemente. I am among the group of small-business owners—or business growers—who are able to live, work, play, thrive and grow my business with San Clemente as a home base.
However, it’s come to my attention that perhaps I have it lucky because I do not need a brick-and-mortar location for my business, and therefore I do not have to deal with expensive and oppressive city oversight. There are too many examples of situations where the city bureaucracy is hyper-focused on enforcing outdated, nit-picky codes and regulations.
The city needs to use its resources of tax base and staff to encourage, support and strengthen in any way possible each and every small growing business. All of the innovators, artists and culture creators that choose to make San Clemente their home ought to be rewarded instead of fined, threatened, shut-down and/or scared off.
I spend as much money as possible here in town to make sure my tax revenue stays local and within the city. I want to see this city supporting the local businesses that make our town unique, beautiful and an all-year destination for seekers of art, passion and culture.
Fellow citizens, please help to support our small-town businesses. I am young and not yet versed in the ways of city politics. If there is anyone out there who can help make a change, please do! Our city needs all the innovators, artists, and leaders, to stay, express themselves and thrive!
