Ocean Recreation Water Quality Warnings and Advisories: Jan. 26

Closure and Posted Warning Status Report

Closures:
Until further notice, in Laguna Beach, the ocean water area from the projection of Bluebird Canyon Drive to the projection of Center Street at Arch Cove is closed to swimming, surfing, and diving due to a sewage spill.

Posted Warnings:
Bacterial levels in ocean and bay recreational waters exceed health standards at the following locations the last time they were tested:

San Clemente

  • From the San Clemente Pier to 300 feet downcoast of the San Clemente Pier.

Huntington Harbor

  • 300 feet of Coral Cay Beach.

Laguna Beach

  • 300 feet of the south end of Aliso County Beach.


Long Term Postings due to Possible Urban Runoff Impacts

Newport Bay

  • Harbor Tower Marina at Pacific Coast Highway and Newport Blvd.


Posted Advisory Warnings
Bacterial levels at outlets where urban runoff mixes with ocean receiving waters exceeded health standards at the following locations the last time they were tested:

Dana Point

  • 75 feet upcoast and 75 feet downcoast of Salt Creek at Monarch Beach.
  • 75 feet upcoast and 75 feet downcoast of the San Juan Creek at Doheny State Beach.

Beach goers should avoid contact with ocean and bay waters in these areas.

The Environmental Health staff advises swimmers that levels of bacteria can rise significantly in ocean and bay waters adjacent to storm drains, creeks and rivers. Swimmers should avoid coastal waters impacted by discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers and beach users should avoid contact with any runoff on the beach during dry or wet weather conditions.
