The article you’re about to read is from our reporters doing their important work — investigating, researching, and writing their stories. We want to provide informative and inspirational stories that connect you to the people, issues and opportunities within our community. Journalism requires lots of resources. Today, our business model has been interrupted by the pandemic; the vast majority of our advertisers’ businesses have been impacted. Operation Underground Railroad will host its annual gala at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Dana Point. The organization is raising funds to help rescue kidnapped children from sex slavery around the world.
“This year the theme of the evening is ‘Homecoming,’ which will reflect on the hope of pulling these children out of the horrible lives they are trapped in and celebrate the rescue of over 300 victims to date,” an OUR press release stated.
People will be able to receive education about OUR and the work it does to rescue children from sex trafficking and to stop traffickers.
The event will be hosted by actress Marisol Nichols and will include musical performances by Lindsey Stirling and Lexi Walker. Norma Bastidas, the record holder of the world’s longest triathlon, will speak on her abduction survivor story.
OUR founder Tim Ballard will also share personal experiences from his work as a former government operative and OUR rescue team leader.
“Mr. Ballard spent more than a decade as an undercover agent for the CIA and Department of Homeland Security where he fought terrorism and Internet crimes against children,” the release stated. “As hotels across America have become a hub of trafficking, OUR is teaming up with the hotel industry to present the first ever Liberator Award at the gala.”
