Voters recalled Ken Lopez Maddox and Mike Winsten and refused to return Larry Christensen to his seat on the Capistrano Unified School District Tuesday, electing John Alpay, Gary Pritchard and Lynn Hatton.

Lopez Maddox and Winsten gained their seats in recall elections two years ago.

Voters rejected a wild swing of power in CUSD, though: Five candidates were running as a slate, but voters only put three in office. That leaves four of the preview “reform” board and three new members backed by a parents group, Children First.

Measure H, which would change how trustees are elected from the current at-large to by individual district, passed with 65 percent of the vote. The incumbent trustees had opposed the measure.
