Nathan Yeomans and Ian Crane eliminated at Hurley Pro, Kolohe Andino and Patrick Gudauskas still rolling

The 2- to 4-foot waves were clean and consistent but the air was pea soup for the start of the Hurley Pro Sunday, September 15 at San Onofre State Beach, Lower Trestles.
A fog bank persisted over the contest area through mid-day. And although the view from the beach seemed veiled behind a sheer curtain, the fog remained far enough out, for the most part, necessitating only one brief fog delay.
All four San Clemente-based surfers—Kolohe Andino, Ian Crane, Patrick Gudauskas and Nathan Yeomans—advanced on to Round 2 from the opening round three-man heats.
Round 1 heat winners advanced directly to Round 3.
Gudauskas posted a combined two-wave score of 11.03 points (out of 20) for a second-place finish behind Australian Taj Burrow (14.54) and beat third-place finisher Bede Durbidge’s (AUS) score of 10.17.
Yeomans came in third in his first heat with 11.67 points behind runner-up Joel Parkinson (AUS) with 11.70 and winner Travis Logie (ZAF) with 12.26.
Andino and Crane were seeded into the first round in a heat together with Australian Mick Fanning. Fanning took the win with 15.50 points. Andino was right behind him with 15.00 and Crane came in third with 9.33.
The first four heats of Round 2 were surfed in the afternoon and Crane’s campaign came to an end when he was ousted by Australian Joel Parkinson 16.13 to 12.74.
Yeomans was also out after Josh Kerr of Australia beat him 14.40 to 10.17.
Round 2 will resume Tuesday, conditions permitting. The first official call will be made at 7:30 a.m. The Hurley Pro waiting period runs through September 21.
Gudauskas will take on Adrian “Ace” Buchan (AUS) in the first heat of the day Tuesday, and Andino will face Matt Wilkinson (AUS) in the final heat of Round 2.
