This annual golf tournament raises funds to send socks to military personnel deployed abroad.

“The United States still has troops deployed in harm’s way in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Middle East. These men and women live under conditions that would make the average American citizen cringe,” according to the event’s website. “They do it without complaint regardless of the discomfort and danger.”

Socks are one of the most desired garments while stationed in the Middle East and climates with severe heat, according to Carla Hogan, a local Gold Star mother who is involved with many local U.S. Marines families.

The tournament is set for 11 a.m. on Sept. 12 at Bella Collina Towne & Golf Club. People can register online at www.scmcsg.org.
