California Beaches Get High Marks

Jake Howard this week highlights some of the findings in Surfrider Foundation’s latest State of the Beach Report. While California was one of only 11 U.S. states or territories to receive an A or B grade, 50% of U.S. beaches, including some in Orange County, are under threat from coastal erosion.

Council Majority Gives MemorialCare Official Go-Ahead to Build Mixed-Use Development

The San Clemente City Council approved an ordinance on second reading that will allow MemorialCare to build a mixed-use development on its former hospital site. The council’s formal approval comes as members of the community have lobbed unfounded claims that Mayor Pro Tem Chris Duncan violated ethics rules by holding improper discussions with MemorialCare—allegations that both Duncan and the medical group dispute.
