For the first time ever, the San Clemente High School girls water polo team will be able to play a second-round CIF-SS playoff game in San Clemente.

The Tritons, who defeated Long Beach Poly 21-7 in the first round on Feb. 19, will host Los Osos in the Division 2 quarterfinals at Vista Hermosa Aquatic Center on Feb. 21 at 12 p.m.

Due to CIF-SS rules and regulations regarding pool size and space during the playoffs, San Clemente teams had been traveling to nearby Capistrano Valley and JSerra Catholic High Schools to play second-round playoff games in years past. The pool area on campus at San Clemente High has been deemed unfit to host anything other than a first-round matchup due to size limitations

But now, thanks to efforts by the high school and the city, the Tritons get to take to the water at the Vista Hermosa Aquatics Center in front of their home crowd for the first time Saturday morning.

It will be the first time a San Clemente High School water polo playoff game will be held at the complex.

The Tritons breezed their way past Long Beach Poly in the first round, thanks to seven goals from Alaina Cousineau and six from Amber McCutcheon. Makenna Smith notched seven assists.
