Two youths and one adult member of the San Clemente’s Wellness & Prevention Coalition attended a four-day Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America conference where they built skills in advocacy and policy change, according to a press release from the coalition.

“Yuki Dias and Helen Calderon represented San Clemente youth in visits to Rep. Darrell Issa, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-St. Louis) and other key policy makers on Capitol Hill,” the release stated. “The message was to invest in the future of our youth through funding prevention efforts. Yuki and Helen participate in the youth coalition SCHShift that works in collaboration with the Wellness & Prevention Coalition.”

Dias and Calderon will travel in April to Issa’s office to talk about the Wellness & Prevention Coalition, which meets every second Tuesday of the month, and seventh- through 12th-graders are invited to attend. Call 949.680.0516 or visit
